About Us
Coming to the Table was founded by descendants of both enslavers
and enslaved people in partnership with the Center for Justice & Peacebuilding at Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. We are inspired by the vision of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in his historic March on Washington speech that one day “the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.” We value the sharing of personal, family and community stories as a powerful vehicle for uncovering history, building relationships, healing and inspiring action.
