Gather at the Table
The Healing Journey of a Daughter of Slavery and a Son of the Slave Trade

Coming to the Table will be featured prominently in the upcoming book Gather at the Table, written by CTTT members Tom DeWolf and Sharon Morgan, and due to be released in October by Beacon Press. Authors Morgan and DeWolf used the CTTT model of healing to build an honest interracial friendship over three years and across thousands of miles and twenty-seven states.
From their website: “Gather at the Table is the story of two everyday people from diverse backgrounds who are on a mission to overcome the trauma of America’s legacy of slavery and the lingering effects of present-day racism….Using genealogy as an undercurrent, they visited each others’ families, ancestral towns, court houses, sites of racial terror, cemeteries, plantations and antebellum mansions, seeking to come to terms with the history out of which racism evolved.”
Gather at the Table will be released Oct. 9, and is available for pre-order now. It’s already getting very positive reviews, plus endorsements from high profile personalities. We are excited about the book’s potential for inspiring a more honest national dialogue about our traumatic past and its remaining aftermaths. And of course we are hopeful that our CTTT Community will grow, as more people learn about us and join us “at the table.”
CTTT will be collaborating with Tom and Sharon on their book tour, including offering a Book Tour “Idea Kit.” The kit is comprised of seven ideas, ranging from simply reading the book and talking to others about it, to attending a book reading, to organizing an event and planning follow-up.
